Perodua sets new sales record

Kuala Lumpur, 21 January 2020 – Perodua held its annual Chinese New Year media luncheon today and announced that they set a new sales record of 240,341 vehicles sold in 2019, achieving a market share of 40%.

“This achievement surpassed our expectations and we thank all Malaysians for the strong support,” said Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, president and CEO.

“On the back of strong demand, we foresee our sales performance this year to be on par with last year’s. We are setting a 2020 sales target of 240,000 units and are cautiously optimistic that it is attainable despite a more competitive market this year,” he added.

“Our strategy of a new model and a facelift a year remains and in the event there is a change in excise duty we can assure that there will be no changes in prices in the next few months,” he said in reply to a question.

More than 2,000 units of the 2020 Bezza launched two weeks ago had been delivered out of an order tally of 15,000, which includes 8,000 converted orders for the previous model.

A total of RM6 has been allocated for local components and there will be investment of RM1.06 for upgrade of outlets and R&D. In terms of exports, 2,800 units were exported mainly to Indonesia, Seychelles and Sri Lanka last year.
