Climate Day

climate day-23sept19-aBukit Jelutong, 23 September 2019 – Scania called for a Climate Day by closing its operations for one hour during which training was conducted on sustainability for its employees including more than 350 employees across Malaysia and Singapore.

Starting from 11am until 12pm on 20 September 2019, employees at all twelve of Scania Malaysia branches nationwide as well as the regional product centre in Port Klang, Scania employees in Singapore and Asia product centre will stopped work and attended a Scania Climate Day training on sustainability at their respective premises. Discussions, quiz session, reflection sessions, conference calls across the branches and the next steps will be part of the activities during the training.

“Scania Climate Day is important to us as a company because it gives us a chance to reflect internally whilst sending a strong message on the importance of sustainability. It starts with the awareness, the know-how and the actions, that we as employees, can take as a responsible business. I am looking forward to a fruitful session that will further help us find ways to reduce our impact on climate change – both locally and globally,” commented Scania Southeast Asia managing director, Marie Sjödin Enström.

Scania Malaysia conducted their Climate Day programme among their staff lead by Tom Kuiphuis, pre-sales director. All staff stopped work for one hour during which a number of activities on sustainability theme were carried out. The staff gathered at the office reception at the appointed time and shown a video recording of Scania group president and CEO, Henrik Henriksson highlighting the importance of sustainability and need for awareness among the staff.

Tom then took the staff through the Scania’s climate facts, effects, Paris Agreement, carbon law and climate targets. The highlight of event was the quiz conducted and submission of action plan suggestions by each staff member.

Scania is committed to driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system. In conjunction with the United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019 that will be taking place on 23 September 2019 in New York, United States of America, Scania will reiterate its commitment towards minimising emissions from its products and its own operations.
