KL Sigma Formula for better tyre managment
Kuala Lumpur, 13 June 2013 – In conjunction with the Malaysian International Bus, Trucks and Components Exhibition (MIBTC) 2013, leading local tyre company, Kit Loong Commercial Tyre (KLCT) Group has today officially unveiled its innovative KL Sigma Formula approach to tyre management.
The formula represents the core substance of professional tyre management solutions. It addresses the sum total five Sigma elements, namely tyre and its related products, services and maintenance, 24/7 outdoor rescue service and network, scientific knowledge and overall management, in order to deliver the benefits of safety, competitiveness, cost effectiveness and control, which are all important factors to measure effective CPK (cost per kilometre).
KLCT’s Managing Director, Kenneth Teh said “There is often a narrow focus on the product cost perspective and a lack of coherent prescription to address the challenges of effective tyre management. At KLCT, we recognize this and that is why we have developed our professional tyre management formula for tyre life extension, the underlying principle of our comprehensive solutions for various fleet market segments.”
Teh added that with the KL Sigma Formula, fleet managers can understand all the elements needed to manage their fleet’s tyres effectively. He explained that measuring effective CPK is not as simple as computing tyre purchase costs divided by total mileage travelled but must address the product, maintenance, breakdown, know-how and management factors collectively. The KL Sigma Formula seeks to convey this and to act as a consistent reminder to fleet operators of the essential factors in successful tyre management.
Through its 82 years of experience and direct involvement in virtually all aspects of the tyre industry, the KLCT Group has amassed a wealth of know-how; encompassing technical knowledge, industrial expertise, commercial acumen, market insight and consumer understanding, to provide an invaluable competitive edge to customers. The group now comprises of 10 registered companies, each focused to excel in their respective business models.
Among them is the Entire Tyre Management Technology Sdn Bhd (ETMT) which is a joint venture with Australian tyre services software developer, Vehicle Management Corporation, formed to develop turn-key IT systems for the commercial tyre industry. The IT systems developed by ETMT will be marketed by another KLCT Group’s company, Entire Tyre ID Logic Sdn Bhd (ETIL). ETIL markets tyre-related IT hardware and software and provide outsourced data management services.
Within KLCT itself, it has also deployed its proprietary enTIRE Tyre Management® software, and enTIRE Retread® software, in addition to a customized ERP and CRM systems, to serve its customers effectively.
The enTIRE Retread software is essential to enable the effective tracking and monitoring of the movement of tyres, which is impossible to be done manually. The software uses RFID tags to track movements of casings, from the time the casing arrives at the factory, through the whole retreading process and until the retreaded tyre is shipped to the customer. RFID tag scanning at every stage enables data to be captured to facilitate accurate material and process cost tracking, resource planning and productivity management.
“We plan for these strategic IT solutions to be available to progressive customers who are keen to work in alliance with KLCT,” said Lok Kok Cheong, Head of Division, Supply Chain Operations Process, Commercial Tyre Group.
More strategic IT initiatives have been undertaken in various stages of developments, including a Digital Mobile Platform (DMP) for various applications that can run on tablet computers.
“We are providing a total service solution to give fleet operators, peace of mind, operational efficiency and competitive advantage. We have confidence that our KL Sigma formula can work to deliver effective results of professional tyre management solutions, based on our strong emphasis on delivering quality in tyre products, services and management; while leveraging technology in retreading production, data management and strategic lT applications,” ended Teh.
