Selangor, 13 May 2010 - The S80, Volvo's top-of-the-range, premium sedan, re-enters the Malaysian market with a refreshed model that is miles ahead in terms of sheer exclusiveness, pleasure and power.

Guaranteed to stimulate and excite even the hardest-to-please customer, the refreshed Volvo S80 2.5T is the fastest sedan in its class, thanks to an increase in horsepower that sees the 5-cylinder DOHC, 6-speed Geartronic, turbo-powered S80 2.5T being revved-up from 200hp to 231hp @ 4,800rpm. The torque also gets a boost from 300 to 340Nm@ 1,700-4,800rpm, making the S80 2.5T capable of doing 0-100km in 7.5 seconds and leaving the competition behind.

Throw in a new generation of cutting-edge driving and support functions, an elegant exterior design and a tough, dynamic face and you have a superior sedan that's ready to put the fear of Volvo in every other luxury make.

Elegance Redefined
New additions to the exterior of the Volvo S80 2.5T gives the sedan a long, wide and broad impression. The grille's larger iron mark and the chrome trim on the front and rear eyeliner as well as at the lower door enhance the car's distinctive impression and makes the front look "tougher".

The refreshed Volvo S80 2.5T also includes a number of new design features on the inside. The interior expresses exclusivity and comfort, characterised by the soft leather with matching stitching. The door panels follow this theme as well. The characteristic centre stack has a silk metal frame, contributing to the exclusive impression. In addition, the sedan has aluminium dials and the new four-spoke steering wheel's décor trim with silk metal effect can be found in the gear selector and around the starter button as well.

Powered and Firmed to the Max
Like the rest of the Volvo range, the All-New Volvo S80 has a transverse driveline and front-wheel drive. The transverse engine installation permits effective space utilisation for deformation in the engine compartment and also makes it possible to create a more spacious passenger compartment.

In order to meet the wishes of S80 customers more interested in an enthusiastic driving style, Volvo has made the chassis far more rigid than before. This not only results in a more stable chassis, it also carves out a more powerful and compact visual profile for the car.

Premium Safety
Volvo Cars has a holistic approach to safety, which encompasses both preventive and protective safety. Preventive safety - the avoidance of accidents - was one of the most important starting points when the Volvo S80 was being developed. It led to the creation of an entirely new generation of advanced driving and support systems. These include active preventive safety features as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - Activates at speeds above 30 km/h to automatically adjust the car's distance to vehicles ahead. ACC is adjustable to five different time intervals to the vehicle ahead; Collision Warning with Auto Break (CAWB): Helps avoid rear-end impacts, minimising the risk of such collisions. If the car approaches another vehicle from behind and the driver does not react, the system alerts the driver with audible and visual signals. If the risk of a collision nonetheless continues to increase despite the warning, the brake support system is activated; Driver Alert Control (DAC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW): Activated at speeds over 65 km/h to prevent single-vehicle road departure as well as collisions caused by temporary distractions; Blind Spot Information System (BLIS): BLIS uses cameras mounted in the door mirrors to register if another vehicle is in the blind spot at the side of the car. This intuitive safety feature helps the driver to prevent an accident from occurring; Active Bending Lights: Moving headlamp beams that follow the curvature of the road to help maintain the best possible visibility in the dark on twisting roads.

The Volvo S80 2.5T is also equipped with the Personal Car Communicator (PCC), an advanced control centre in pocket format. At the touch of a button, the car owner can instantly find out whether the car is locked or unlocked or the alarm has been activated
or the alarm has been set off and someone is inside the car

Protective safety in the Volvo S80 is structured in the form of a network of exterior and interior safety systems and functions that interact to reduce the risk of occupant injury in the event of a collision. The exterior systems have the task of distributing and absorbing incoming collision forces so that the passenger space is preserved as intact as possible. The body is therefore built in the form of a box-section structure using varying grades of steel, with all the components interacting to provide controlled deformation
