Hyundai’s 2009 Sustainability Report

Shah Alam, 25 September 2009 - Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s leading automaker, released its 2009 Sustainability Report today, which summarizes the company’s corporate social responsibility activities and results geared towards a better society for all.

The report, which is the seventh since 2003 entitled “The Road to Sustainability,” is an opportunity to review Hyundai’s progress made on sustainability activities, and offers guidance on any shortcomings and areas for improvement.  The sustainability reporting process is part of the company’s efforts to become a more environmentally conscious, socially responsible and economically viable business.

In this year’s report, “Green management” is unveiled as the key driving force behind Hyundai’s sustainability approach.  Blue Drive™ is the company’s plan to develop low-carbon, fuel-efficient vehicles that minimize vehicle fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions, thereby meeting the social need for both mobility and environmental preservation.  The Elantra LPi Hybrid, launched in July 2009 as the world’s first hybrid vehicle to be powered by LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), was the beginning of Hyundai’s ambitious initiative to open up the Blue Drive era.
