Proton receives Gold and Silver awards

Shah Alam, 3 April 2009 - Proton Holdings Bhd is pleased to announce that its whollyowned manufacturing units, Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn Bhd and Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd have been honoured with Gold and Silver awards respectively for the Automobile category of the Frost & Sullivan’s Malaysia Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MMEA) 2009. The awards were presented by YB Datuk Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation in an Award Presentation Ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Proton Holdings Bhd Managing Director Dato’ Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said that the awards are testimonies to efforts and improvements made by PROTON to enhance all aspects of its operation, from manufacturing to service quality.

“These awards signify our commitment to our customers and in meeting their expectations. We are most honored with the recognitions by Frost & Sullivan and these awards will further motivate us in continuing our commitment to produce quality cars that meet market needs,” said Dato’ Syed Zainal.

MMEA recognizes the Malaysian manufacturing capability in the context of its global
competitiveness. The awards acknowledge the best facilities in Malaysia that have achieved and sustained manufacturing excellence. Facilities recommended as winners are those with diligence, perseverance, foresight and dedication required to develop a successful manufacturing organization with a sustained and continuous learning.

Nominees for the awards were assessed and compared based on several key qualities; focus on customers, orderliness, safety & environment, visual management, scheduling systems, layout & material handling systems, inventory levels, internal competence, machine up-time, operational flexibility, supply chain, quality systems and innovation adaptation.
