Proton pledges on workplace safety and health
The declaration was signed during the launch of Proton’s Workplace and Road Safety and Health Campaign, an internal event organised at the Shah Alam plant in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays. Dato’ Syed Zainal urged employees to take health and safety issues seriously and to apply them in every aspect of their lives especially during the Hari Raya celebration, when a large number of employees and their loved ones will be travelling back to their kampungs to celebrate the annual event with families and friends. In conjunction with the campaign, an exhibition was held with participation from government agencies including the Road Safety Department (Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya), the Social Security Organisation (Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial - Perkeso), the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Jabatan Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan) from the Ministry of Human Resources, Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA), Polis Di-Raja Malaysia (PDRM), the Fire Department, Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan and the Department of Environment from the Ministry of Health. Also taking part were the different in-house departments in Proton. In his speech, Dato’ Syed Zainal emphasized Proton’s commitment to ensure that every employee value the safety, health and environment elements at their workplace. “Health and safety are our top priority and we are not doing this campaign to merely fulfil legal and regulatory requirements. We view this commitment seriously; this is part of our social responsibility to our employees and we must ensure the best practices in this area are being carried out throughout the group.” “As a company that values the safety and health of its employees, we is committed in its effort. To underline this, we has set up a special unit, the Environment, Health & Safety Unit, to ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements as well as making continual improvement at every level of its operations,” says Dato’ Syed Zainal. He added: “Given the safety and health efforts put in place, Proton has experienced a lower rate of workplace accidents in its Shah Alam plant. The trend is declining and we hope that this will improve further in the future.”
