Mercedes-Benz half year results

Kuala Lumpur, 25 August 2008 - Mercedes-Benz Malaysia saw its passenger car segment experience a growth of eight percent in its half year ending June 2008 compared to the same period last year, according to the recent results released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). The half yearly results also highlight Mercedes-Benz’s leading position in the luxury passenger car segment with a total of over 1,900 vehicles delivered from January to June 2008.
 
In the C-Class segment, Mercedes-Benz maintained a steady sales growth of eight percent in HI 2008 to register 600 units sold. The C-Class continues to command interest with its sleek and sporty look alongside all the other Mercedes hallmarks of safety and comfort.
 
The stylish Mercedes-Benz E-Class locked in at over 850 units sold, posting a significant increase of 28 percent compared to the 667 units sold in H1 2007. The E-Class sustains its stronghold in this class segment largely due to a combination of its well-known high and uncompromising standards in comfort, class and power.
 
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class stood above the rest yet again as the as the premier choice in the luxury saloon segment with more than 230 vehicles delivered in the first six months of 2008.
 
According to Peter Honegg, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the company has continued to experience high demand for the C, E and S-Class, despite the recent rise in fuel prices.
 
“We are proud to maintain our leading position as the preferred brand in the luxury segment with our flagship S-Class and E-Class blazing the trail. The high fuel prices has not setback our growth plans.” 
 
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class, with its high-class appeal, attention to detail and ample space, continues to register strong interest with the company expecting the introduction of an updated model to build new sales momentum in the second half of the year. 
 
The commercial vehicle segment of Mercedes-Benz also recorded good half year sales. After the recent fuel price increase, there has also been a significant increase on the enquiries for the heavy duty commercial vehicles of Mercedes Benz, for it is well known for its proven fuel economy. Mercedes-Benz Actros has recently been awarded the World's Most Fuel Efficient, Series Production Truck by Guiness Book of World Records.
 
MAA’s data shows the Mitsubishi Fuso line exceeding sales by over 100 units from 588 units last year bringing a year-to-date growth of 17 percent. This increase in sales in the first half year shows the growing popularity and acceptance of the Mitsubishi FUSO brand in Malaysia. In line with the increasing customer demand, the company is also taking steps to expand the Mitsubishi dealers’ network on both sales and after sales.
 
Honegg added that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is very encouraged with the performance to date this year and look forward to continued sales as they move into the second half of the year.
