Petaling Jaya, 24th July 2008 - Continental Sime Tyre PJ Sdn. Bhd. (CST PJ) recently received the ISO/TS 16949 certification.

ISO/TS 16949, the international Quality Management System standard for the automotive industry, is mainly applicable for OE (Original Equipment) customers like Ford, General Motors, Toyota, etc. However, it is also important for future business opportunities, because the fulfillment of the ISO/TS 16949 requirement states that the certified company is on a high quality level and the quality system in place is effective.

The certification process, performed by SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd., was done in two stages:
1) Readiness audit
2) Recertification audit

The 1st stage was performed over 2 days in April 2008, prior to the 2nd stage being conducted, was mainly done to see if the company was ready for the certification. Thereafter, the 2nd stage, which is the more demanding stage, was conducted over a three-day period in June 2008, in a professional manner under the watchful eyes of four external auditors. The CST PJ team received some good suggestions on how to improve even further for the future.

“The whole CST PJ team worked very hard for this achievement, and was rewarded with the confirmation that we passed, but this is not the time to rest on our laurels and say ‘job done’”, said Plant Quality Manager Mark Scott. “We will carry on improving day by day to become what we in our company call: Q-BIC (Quality Best In Class)”, he added.
