Kuala Lumpur, 26th June 2008 – Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) launched the all new Sylphy today at a leading hotel and the event was graced by Datuk Ong Tee Kiat, Minister of Transport Malaysia. 

The name Sylphy is coined from the English word “sylph,” representing the spirit of wind (air), which along with earth, water and fire, are the four major element spirits. It is intended to express the outstanding peace of mind, reliability and the refined elegance and environmental friendliness that are hallmarks of the Sylphy.

Since it was first launched in the Japanese market, the Sylphy is one of Nissan’s best selling models with over 160,000 units sold in 10 markets to date. With its beautiful and elegant design, the all new Nissan Sylphy was awarded Japan’s Good Design Award 2007 under the category of Product Design / Passenger vehicles.

It comes with an all-aluminium MR20DE engine which is tuned to satisfy everyday driving needs with ample low-end torque that extends linearly through the mid to high-speed range, where 90% torque is made available from 2,000rpm, maximising this engine’s “fun to drive” ability.

Nissan’s 3rd Generation Xtronic CVT (Continously Variable Transmission) provides smooth and seamless ratio changes, maintaining optimum torque at any given power demand.

At the same time it also heightened consideration for the environment with an Eco-friendly 16km per litre fuel consumption.

The Sylphy is a luxury medium sized executive 2.0 Litre sedan that embodies Nissan’s Modern Living concept, a modern expression of premium interior quality that is characterised by fine interior appointments, refined comfort and exceptional drivability.

The most arresting feature is its undeniable beauty inside and out, shaped by Nissan’s distinctive S-motion design theme. The elegant S shape of the dash-board serves both the driver & passenger with functionality and openness. Taut surfaces draw the graceful curves into a lyrical body shape. Even the clamshell seats carry the sleek curves of the design, while dressed in high-quality, scratch-proof ‘Masumi’ seat material.

The interior environment was conceived for ride comfort and satisfaction. With a spacious interior cabin length of 2,115mm, cabin height of 1,210mm and the rear compartment legroom of 680mm. These are the largest dimensions among C-segment sedans in Malaysia. Its trunk is also the largest in its class at up to 504 litres.

A distinct component of the interior is the super-multiconsole with a 9.7 litre centre compartment and a deep design to offer abundant space for fitting an attaché case or a handbag. Nissan’s auto air-conditioning system maintains the air temperature in the cabin along with its streamline roof to help circulate cool air to the rear passengers. The Sylphy is protected with a layer of UV green glass, blocking out 87% of the harmful UV rays. It helps to minimise the damaging effects of sun exposure on the passengers and the interior components.

Safety features include dual SRS airbags, pre-tensioner seatbelts with load limiters, active head restraint system, plus EBD + ABS + Brake Assist. Packed with both active & passive safety features, it is awarded a 6-Star Rating for Safety by the Japanese New Car Assessment Program.

It is offered with a 2.0 litre engine (Xtronic-CVT only) with 6 elegant colour options. On-the-road prices (inclusive of insurance, road tax, registration fee and ownership claim fee) valid for Peninsular Malaysia will be as follows:

Nissan Sylphy 2.0 : (Comfort Package) – RM112,800 ; (Luxury Package) – RM116,800

The Luxury package upgrades the seats and panels to combination leather and adds on a 6-CD changer with MP3 support, and full V-Kool tinting.
